Conclave News

The Conclave is just around the corner but more things need to be done in order to make it a success. The Conclave work crew needs to be down at Camp Horseshoe by 4:00 PM on Friday, June 13th or else the 1997 Conclave will run as the date suggests.

If any of the work crew would like to lend a hand at Horseshoe during the week before the conclave you are welcome to- but bring your own food.

The lodge is still in need of door prizes to be donated to the Conclave. As an integral part of the "Food, Fellowship, and Fun", the door prizes will be handed out at each meal during the Conclave. If you have any new items that you would like to donate to the Conclave, please drop them off at the Trading Post sometime during the weekend.

Patch Fundraiser

Four new patches will be offered at the June weekend as part of the Ranger Residence Fund for the Lane House restoration. These patches, designed by Brian Maloney, will be available at the trading post as individuals or as a framed set. The patches themselves are the same except for color variations. The patches in the framed sets have gold borders and will be offered for $50. Only 49 sets are going to be available for sale.

Help Needed

The Special Camporee is still looking for more help. With the weekend approaching fast they still need adult guides in handicrafts or in the dining hall to ensure a successful weekend. The camporee also needs a registered nurse for this weekend. The Special Camporee will be held June 26-28. To help please contact Sue Fisher at (610) 436-9539 or Karen Griffin at (610) 935-2695.

Registration Cards
The lodge is currently reviewing the
registration system in which the cards are filled out for each weekend and sent in. An idea under considerationis one card for all three service weekends in a year. If you have any ideas on how to make the registration process easier please make your suggestions known to any of the lodge officers.

The Chief?s Bonnet
Dear Brothers,

Welcome to the 1997-1998 season for Octoraro Lodge 22 and what an exciting year it will be. With this weekend, the Conclave the next weekend, the National Jamboree, summer camps at John H. Ware 3rd and Horseshoe, and the National Order of the Arrow Conference at Iowa State University in August of 1998, Octoraro Lodge will be
very involved in each of these events. Take advantage of these events coming up in the future, not just a few mentioned. Any questions you have can be answered by your scoutmaster, youth representative or any member of the Executive Commitee. Have a good, safe weekend and summer. See ya soon!

Yours in Brotherhood,

"Stick"

Call for Service

The Executive Committee is looking for brothers wishing to serve for the upcoming year. There is no require-ment other than being a member of Octoraro Lodge 22. The committee is an excellent way to learn more about the lodge?s functions. Currently, there are many positions available. If you are looking to become more active in the lodge then sign up at headquarters for the Executive Committee. But if you still aren?t sure about whether or not you are involved enough, here is a poem for you to give some thought to:

Do You Just Belong?
Are you an active member?
The kind that would be missed,
Or are you just contented
That your name is on the list?
Do you attend the meetings,
And mingle with the crowd,
Or do you stay at home
And crab both loud and long?
Do you take an active part
To help our lodge along,
Or are you satisfied to be
The kind to "just belong"?
Do you go to visit
A Brother who is sick,
Or leave the work for just a few,
Then talk about a clique?
There?s quite a program scheduled
That means success, if done,
And it can be accomplished
With the help of everyone.
So attend the meetings regularly,
And help with hand and heart,
Don?t just be a member,
But take an active part.
Think this over, Brother,
Are we right or wrong?
Are you an active member
Or- do you just belong?
Continuing Tradition

With the retirement of Roy Cole at the end of March, Danny Cole has been named the HSR ranger. Danny is the great-grandson of the reservation?s first ranger, C.C. Cole and a nephew of Roy Cole. Danny is a master welder by trade, having worked the past 16 years for Certified Welding Inc., and brings all the Cole family traditions to the reservation.

Please welcome Danny, his wife, Melissa, and their two sons, Michael and Steven, to the Chester County Council family.
